The KDBC Spirit team was the brainchild of the Coaching Staff of the Kelowna Dragon Boat Club. The goal was to create a team comprised of competitive paddlers representing the club's teams to compete in out of town festivals.

In 2009, to celebrate the KDBC's 10th anniversary, club shirts and Spirit team uniforms were designed with words of inspiration and reflection of the club's culture: teamwork, commitment, camaraderie, power, hero, goals, inspiration, winner, harder, faster, deeper, stronger... all culminating into "Twenty two hearts beating as one".   In an effort to further encourage cross-team participation, a KDBC Spirit team was formed to compete in the international San Francisco Dragon Boat Festival. The team had its largest turnout, with 30 paddlers representing eight different teams, including our Masters team.  The team came away with not only a great race experience, but also a better awareness and acceptance of the various club teams and the experiences each paddler brings to  the expanding Spirit team roster.

In 2010, the legacy continues - KDBC Spirit teams were formed to race in Deep Cove, Banff, Seattle and the Kelowna Festival in September. Each of these teams are represented by paddlers wanting to expand their festival experience while sharing the same camaraderie, commitment, competition and fun that was the touchstone created by the Kelowna Dragon Boat Club.
